Shou, meaning “long life and prosperity” in Japanese, is a new restaurant concept that recently opened in the Kaslik district. It is a hookah lounge that serves Italian and Asian cuisine in a spacious retro avant-garde setting.
The décor is definitely something to be admired. The venue is spacious and fresh; comfortably spaced white tables and chairs with colorful cushions, a high ceiling studded with lights, and contrasting colorful walls and decorative elements that all blend together for a harmonious effect. There isn’t one angle of the place that’s boring; whether it’s the colorful egg chairs, the circular openings in the wall, or the groovy wallpaper, every facet is eye-catching. The lighting, the colors, the menus, the napkin rings, and the frame surrounding the projection screen all show the attention to detail that’s gone into setting up the venue.
The attractive menu features a wide and creative variety of platters, from sushi and maki to pizza and pasta. There are also sandwiches and hot platters for all tastes. We started with the delicious Grilled Calamari marinated with Shou’s signature hoisin sauce followed by the Tunapica, a fresh tuna and avocado tartar served with crunchy greens and a mouthwatering soya ginger sauce. We also had the Chicken Quesadillas that were my personal favorite off the appetizer menu, with just the right amount of melted cheese, sautéed onions, grilled peppers, and tomatoes. For our main course, we ordered the Scaloppini di Pollo; a succulent chicken breast marinated in Madera wine and topped with cream and porcini mushrooms with a side of delicious vegetable egg noodles. We also had the Veal Marsala; a 200g flame-grilled filet mignon topped with the chef’s homemade sauce with a potato puree and sautéed vegetables on the side. Leave room for some light and refreshing dessert at the end.
In case you’re not in the mood for eating, you can enjoy a delicious drink and a hookah while listening to the excellent choice of music in the background. I recommend you try their margarita – delicious!
Shou becomes a livelier venue on the weekends. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights feature live entertainment; latin shows on Thursdays and Broadway-inspired shows by Burlesque dancers on Fridays and Saturdays.
This is not just another hookah lounge, or another fusion restaurant; this is a new venue with an original identity that combines a casual, comfortable atmosphere with subtle entertainment and a delicious, wide variety of food.
Price per person including drinks is approximately 25 USD.
