Beirut city celebrates the start of the Christmas season with an explosion of lights and colors. A Christmas Parade followed by the illumination of a wondrous Christmas tree, marked the launch of the 2010 festivities in Beirut Central District.
The parade started at Beirut Souks through Souk Al Arwam, Al Ajami Square, Souk Al Tawileh, Zawyat Ebn Irak Al Dimashki, Wegan Street, Patriarch Howayek Street, Mir Majid Erslan Avenue, Allenby Street, Fakhry Bei Street and ended at the Tarablous Street in Beirut Souks where the central Christmas tree was illuminated.
The huge tree, decorated with shimmer and silver ornaments stands tall in front of old heritage building in souks. The building behind the tree has also been decorated with little Christmas trees. Everywhere you look, you feel the Christmas spirit.
Prime Minister Saad Hariri inaugurated the festivities surrounded by international media who came all the way to record this momentous event in history. Other officials included Minister of Tourism, Fadi Abboud as well Director General of Ministry of Tourism, Nada Sardouk as Miss Lebanon 2010 Rahaf Abdullah. The management of Solidere were also present on the countdown that lit up Beirut city with the Christmas spirit.
Families, including children, were fascinated by this once in a life time event that included beautiful dance shows and an amazingly ongoing show of fireworks leaving everyone in awe. As if this was not enough to keep everyone happy, the event included a marching band, Santa float, giant flags, Mini Studio Characters and much more surprises.
