Beautiful Lebanon is full of sights and sounds, and down towards the south of the country, and a little uphill lies the old city of Jezzine and its neighbor Machmouche. The area is rich in culture, heritage and natural beauty and we went exploring around the area. Surrounded by forest-filled mountains, picturesque vineyards and orchards, and celebrated for its magnificent waterfalls, some as high as 90 meters, Jezzine is one of the bigger towns in the south of Lebanon. The city is also renowned for its production of handmade, traditional cutlery and daggers with decorative inlays – the perfect local souvenir from Jezzine. When in town, you must see the shrine of Our Lady of the Waterfall (a statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the valley), as well as the 400-year-old Kanaan Family palace, a grotto, and of course the incredible panoramic views. Nearby at Machmouche there are more amazing panoramic views, as well as a well-known old monastery, consisting of a building and grounds belonging to monks that live in seclusion. Check out the stunning photos from Beirutnightlife’s Jezzine trip and we highly recommend you take a tour for yourself soon!
