Smar Jbeil in the Batroun area is a beautiful village overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with a rich history. From its 500m elevated location on a hill, the views are stunning(spanning from Jbeil to Tripoli on the Western side and towards Bcharri on its Eastern side) and the surroundings are ancient. It’s one of the oldest villages in Lebanon and boasts ruins of a beautiful castle in the center of the village, originally dating back to the Phoenicians. Smar Jbeil’s location was always strategic and served as a prime location for various cultures that lived in, and conquered Lebanon, from the Romans to the Crusaders.
