Established in Beirut, Carwan is the first pop-up gallery that promotes international limited-edition design in the Middle East. Through exhibitions in various locations of the region and worldwide design events, Carwan features unique contemporary design objects from international cutting-edge designers.
Thanks to the introduction of an eclectic mix of design references in the Middle-East, the gallery fosters exchanges of inspiration, culture and know-how between local and international designers and craftsmen. Furthermore, it aims at exhibiting Middle-Eastern designers in international design fairs.
Carwan has successfully launched its first group show “Milan does Beirut” during the Milan Design Fair 2011, in Ventura-Lambrate zone. This exhibition presented unique objects from seven contemporary designers sharing a unique talent and approach towards design craftsmanship. The event is now brought to Beirut, hosted by Karim Bekdache Showroom in Mar Mikhael.
Held under the patronage of the Italian and the Canadian Embassies, the opening featured as well a design symposium in collaboration with ALBA (Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts), with the participation of the designers.
Until June 1st, ALBA will host a 3-day workshop, inviting two of the designers to lecture an open audience.
