Before fully recapping the entire Within Temptation concert event, for all you rock fans that may have missed the show, I want to say that this particular event is exactly what a rock concert should be like, from start to finish. This NRJ show produced by 2U2C portrayed reasons why I appreciate live music so much. From the true fans who lined up as early as 12 noon! To the impeccable stage lighting rig, set up fully equipped with large LED screens and more. The entire evening was perfectly organized. Even the stampede of eager teens rushing to the stage felt perfectly timed. The Forum De Beirut filled up well before 9pm, as fans waited in positive anticipation. Lights dimmed to black, when suddenly purple beams of lights shot out to the crowd, boosting the energy sky high…
Support act Anneke van Giersbergen and band have hit the stage! Anneke sang some of her best hits to a refreshingly very elegant rocker crowd. All I can say at this point is, WOW ‘what a voice’! For those of you who may not know, Anneke van Giersbergen was the lead singer of The Gathering and now is pleasing fans with own solo project. Guests, who were lucky enough to attend this amazing live show, were pleased to catch both Anneke van Giersbergen and Within Temptation on the same night. At this point the crowd was ecstatic to hear Anneke’s voice, which can be described perfectly with the word, ‘angelic’. Anneke delivered a full set including, “Feel Alive”, “My Boy”, “Circles”, “Stay”, “1,000 Miles Away”, “Witness” and more! Fans were upset knowing that Anneke’s set was over, yet were very much excited for headlining band Within Temptation to rock the arena. Within Temptation had some gear to set up, which allowed guests to take a breather and get ready for the incredible main act. The one they have been counting down the days to see…
Dim the lights to dark once again. Que the incredible artistic intro and…ready, set, go! Within Temptation starts their powerhouse set with “Shot In The Dark”. The crowd went absolutely wild! What a voice lead singer Sharon Del Adel possesses, fans showed appreciation with raised hands and metal horns, sending salutations to Within Temptation. The band gave no less than 110% while performing. LED screened backdrops displayed images that went hand and hand with songs such as fast cars to the song “Faster”. Followed by “Fire and Ice”, “Ice Queen”, “Iron”, “Angels”, “Where Is the Edge” and many, oh so many, more! Later in the set, for the second time ever in the history of Within Temptation, Anneke sang alongside Sharon to “Somewhere”. This was indeed a special treat, which was given to guests during the encore of Within Temptation’s killer set. Guitars ripped, the drumbeats were heavy, and the keyboard added that perfect eerie symphonic sound synonymous with Within Temptation.
I can not begin to describe the pandemonium, or what I like to call fandemonium. Girls sat up on the shoulders of their guy pals in order to catch a perfect stage view. All fans jumped, cheered and of course sang along to every lyric when the band played “Stand My Ground”. Sharon, showing much appreciation to our beautiful country, sang as she held Lebanon’s flag in her hands. Audience arms swayed, waving in the air to “Angels” and bodies danced to “Hand Of Sorrow”. After the, what was thought to be, final song, “Stairway To The Sky”, Sharon graciously introduced her band to the crowd and thanked Lebanon for such a wonderful evening…. But the fans simply did not have enough! Encore, encore! Sharon and Within Temptation do not disappoint. They rushed the stage for a crowd-pleasing encore. Sharon now sang “Somewhere” with Anneke. I have got to say these voices, as a duo will make you fly! The encore lasted a couple more songs, “Never Ending Story” and “Mother Earth”. Sharon carried the Lebanese flag again, as she bowed down to the crowd, ending the epic concert event in an epic and truly beautiful way.
