Best of Beirut (Part 1): Monot, doin’ it old skool

This is where the nightlife scene in Lebanon really began. Over ten years ago, this was THE happening night hub, with pubs, bars and nightclubs mushrooming left and right and the traffic backed up all the way to Sodeco. Those were the oldskool glory days. Now Beiruti nightlife has been dispersed, North to Gemayzeh, West to Hamra, and further expanding to new areas every year. But it’s far from over for Monot. The street is a classic, a fine wine that has become refined with age and retained only the best of the Beirut night scene. And below, ladies and gentlemen, is la crème de la crème of Rue Monot:

1 – Pacifico

This bars was one of the first to open in Monot in the early 90’s and it definitely hasn’t lost its edge! With a mouthwatering selection of some of the greatest Latin cuisine in the country (the pineapple salad and fajitas are highly recommended), as well as its famous Mojitos and Margaritas, it’s no wonder customers have been coming back for nearly two decades.  The place is always buzzing with great music, a friendly atmosphere and the crowd that knows Beirut best — and since it’s never empty, reservations are highly recommended!

2 – Rococo

Brought to you by the nightlife masterminds of Add-mind, Rococo welcomes back the golden age for bar-hoppers who want a contrast of modern and vintage. The design is unique, with a mix of old-world refinement , Art Deco, antique decorations, bright colors, and original lighting  — it’s where bold and contemporary meet classic and comfortable. Try the delicious dishes at this gastro-bar before you quench your thirst with over-the-top cocktails, and come by on nights with live performances and special events.

3 – Palais by Crystal

The coolest crowds come to party at to the coolest club! The location has been home to several hotspots with several names in the past, but for the past 6 years Palais by Crystal has been reigning over Rue Monot. Rock star décor with grunge-inspired elegant chandeliers, skulls, pictures of pop-icons, and candles make the club a true palace. Put on your dancing shoes — this is no place to sit down, it’s the place to get down! It’s all about spectacular music spun by local or international guest DJs, phenomenally fun theme nights, awesome performances and all-around party mania. This is the place to see and be seen!

4 – Brut

Come down underground to Brut, one of the hottest clubs in Beirut and located at the famous alleyway at the end of Monot. Killer tunes, brutal jams, and unforgettable nights of partying hard await you in this space made for those with an appetite for wild winter fun. Clubaholics, you’re in for lots of exciting events and special theme nights this season, so get ready for the surprises!

5 – The Greedy Goose

An authentic British pub in Beirut, The Greedy Goose is more accurately a gastro-pub serving a mix of British classics like Fish n’ Chips, as well as restaurant-style food and delicious desserts. With the philosophy to promote fresh, locally produced foods and beverages, the charming  pub tries as much as possible to offer local wine and beer — but also has a huge selection of spirits from around the world and makes great cocktails. Don’t dress up, the atmosphere here is friendly, cozy and unpretentious — but do come prepared to mingle with a mix of cultures. Come watch sport events or join the fun for “Pub Quiz Night” every Monday.
