After a 14 month marriage, the British actor-comedian Russell Brand filed for divorce on Friday from wife, pop star Katy Perry, on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.
Brand, 36, star of the movie “Get Him to the Greek” married Perry, 27, singer of the hit album “Teenage Dream”, on October 2010 in a beautiful wedding in India. Although Brand is a former drug addict and Perry is a Christian-raised ex-gospel singer, and the match between the two seemed very odd, they hit it off and the chemistry between them made them one of the entertainment industry’s most high-profile celebrity couples.
For the past few weeks though, the media reported that their marriage is on the rocks. During the Christmas holidays, Brand was spotted in England while Perry was in Hawaii, both not wearing their wedding rings.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends,” said Brand on Friday, after filing the divorce papers in the Los Angeles Superior Court. No separation date has been given or confirmed yet.
