SKOUN Gala Dinner: An On Going Support for Preventing Addiction

The SKOUN annual Gala dinner was held once again in the enchanting and historical Sursock Palace Gardens, where more than 500 guests were invited to celebrate and support SKOUN in its ongoing addiction awareness and treatment activities. Bedecked with stars, clouds, angels, and bubbles, the party scene embraced the whimsical theme “Heaven”, contributed by set designer Rana Salam. The event was organized by “Stree”. Guests were welcomed with cocktails, lounge tracks from DJ Caline, and a chance to enter a tombola with luxurious prizes. Chic dresses designed by Lebanese designer Caroline Seikaly hung from the trees, as if raining down from heaven.

“This event, as always, is meant to highlight both our success and our continuing need for community support in our mission to raise awareness about substance use and provide effective treatment through our addiction center,” said Sarah Trad, SKOUN Board President and Co-founder.

Thanks to the generous help of Cynthia Sarkis Perros, who brought the French group Jeffrey’s Band to entertain guests throughout the dinner, guests were delighted with covers of hit French and international songs. Following dinner, the tombola winners were announced, with a few lucky guests walking away with a Fiat 500 car by Saad&Trad SAL, a daytrip to Mykonos on a private jet by Open Sky Aviation, and a bottle of Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux 1995, among other dazzling prizes. The DJ took over the music, getting the crowd up and moving with the latest dance beats.

Marking SKOUN’s 7th anniversary and an active year for the center, the Gala was cause for much celebration. As of this year, SKOUN now reaches out through educational programs or life skills in more than 27 Lebanese schools reaching 427 teachers and 1600 students with messages of drug prevention and positive youth development. Together with other NGO partners, SKOUN also completed a national needs assessment study to be able to provide better treatment and care to substance users and their families. SKOUN also recently announced a new clinic soon to open in Chiyah.

“This Gala is a night not only to remember the people we have helped, but also those who are still in need,” said Nadya Mikdashi, SKOUN Executive Director and Co-founder. ”We have great goals to achieve in Lebanon and many more people to bring life, health, and hope to, but this year we celebrate an amazing record of progress that we thank everyone here tonight for contributing to.”

SKOUN would like to thank its generous sponsors for making this event possible by highlighting their meaningful contributions to this worthy cause.
