For the fourth year in a raw, Solidere will organize the Beirut Jazz Festival 2011 at Beirut Souks between the 30th of September and the 6th of October 2011. The Festival will present a number of musical concerts that will start by 8:30 PM according to the following program:
30 September 2011: Rabih Abou Khalil Group
Rabih Abou Khalil is an international Lebanese Jazz Artist. The composer and player is renowned for his inventive music pieces that marked him with a special musical style. He wrote music for several Global and European Orchestras such as the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Ensemble Moderne, one of the most prominent international orchestras in contemporary music.
1 October 2011: A concert by Philippe El-Hage Quintet.
Phillippe El-Hage is renowned for his skills in playing the piano; El-Hage was nominated for the Paris Young Talents 2005 Contest Award. The works of Philippe El-Hage are an original musical genre open to the world, reflecting his diverse influences: jazz, classical harmony and oriental (Near Eastern).
6 October 2011: Chucho Valdes and the Afro Cuban Messengers.
Chucho Valdes is a Cuban piano player, composer, and Professor of Music, musical arranger and director of group. Winner of several Grammy Awards, he was declared since 2006 FAO´s Ambassador of Good willing. He toured more than 50 countries all around the world and performed many shows at the most famous sceneries in the world. He was considered by the specialized critics’ as one of the best pianist in the world.
8 October 2011: Marcus Miller.
Marcus Miller is an American composer. As a multi-instrumentalist, Marcus is highly proficient as a keyboardist, clarinetist/bass clarinetist and, primarily, as a world-renowned electric bassist, topping critics’ and readers’ polls for three decades. He is famed for cooperating with the Jazz Legend Miles Davis during the 80s. In addition to this, he received a huge praise over his contribution in the Zoolook album of the world renowned French musician Jean Michel Jarre.
This festival confirms the cultural role of Beirut and enhances activities in Beirut Souks, the modern vibrant commercial district attracting, since its opening, several important musical festivals and cultural events.
