Britney Spears’ Next Role: Wide Receiver For The NY Jets?
For her summer vacation, Britney Spears is going to camp — and not the pillow-fighting sleepover version her fans might imagine. The singer is going to be roughing it up with the New York Jets.
As part of the promotional duties for her upcoming involvement in NFL Kickoff Weekend, Spears plans to appear at the team’s training camp, according to spokespeople for the Jets and the NFL. The Jets started training on Monday in Hempstead, New York, on the campus of Hofstra University, and they anticipate Spears will make her appearance during the first week in August, sometime after they return from next week’s trip to Japan. It hasn’t been determined yet whether Spears will do more than a camp meet-and-greet, though her predecessor in the NFL’s opening-weekend festivities, Jon Bon Jovi, actually ran a few plays when he visited the New York Giants’ training camp last year. Bon Jovi later rang in the season with a traffic-stopping free concert for 500,000 people in Times Square before the Giants’ game against the San Francisco 49ers. The details of Spears’ involvement in the NFL Kickoff Weekend are also still being determined. A source close to the Jets said that Spears would not perform at halftime. The Jets and the Washington Redskins open the season at Landover, Maryland’s FedEx Field on September 4. The event will be televised live on ABC.
