Stove: Simple & Charming French Dining

I will always have a special place in heart for the Monot area, so I am always happy to hear when a new venue opens up on that strip. When Stove opened its door on the Monot Main Road, I simply had to try it – and it did not disappoint.

The setting is an old house with high ceilings and beautiful floor tiles. It is very spacious and allows for each table to have its own privacy. The chairs and tables are very simple yet comfortable. The wine cellar is in a separate section characterized by its honey-colored stone walls, typical of traditional Lebanese architecture. The setting sends out a vibe that no effort was put into it because of its simplicity, but it takes a lot of hard work to create such a simple yet captivating décor that takes you back in time. The terrace is absolutely charming and beautiful. It is ideal for breezy warm nights and definitely has a magical ambiance that will set the mood for an unforgettable evening.

The menu features a selection of platters belonging to the French cuisine from the Bordeaux and Bourgogne regions. We started off with some bresaola and salmon entrées. Both were very fresh and prepared in an uncomplicated way with very good presentation and taste. We continued by ordering our main courses which were the grilled scallops and the grilled beef filet. Both were very well prepared, deliciously presented and tasted just right. The stars of the evening were the sorbet and the chocolate cake. The sorbet was very refreshing while the chocolate cake was simply exquisite! The wine selection is mind blowing. With a large variety of red and white wines from all over France, you won’t know where to start. There is also a selection of fine Lebanese wine.

The staff was very friendly and professional and we experienced no delay or mistakes in our order.  The portions could have been a bit larger, but they were fair for French cuisine. My favorite thing about the place is that its ambiance and food weren’t pretentious at all, which is very encouraging for those of you who avoid French restaurants because they are stuffy.

This is great place to have dinner with your family or to try out for an intimate date or dinner with friends. I mostly recommend it for an older crowd.
