Lebanon has proved to everyone that it has more than achieved international standards in dining. In 2010 especially, we witnessed the opening of some new restaurants that are reminiscent of those in New York, Paris, Tokyo, and London – One that stands out, Mybar, has been the talk of the town for as long as I can remember.
Following an interesting concept of over 100 people buying shares online, the restaurant was finally created and opened in downtown Beirut’s Park Avenue. Apart from being located in such a swanky neighborhood, the venue itself nothing less than chic and stylish. Upon entering, you notice a wall studded with the names of each of Mybar’s partners.
The lower section is more of a drinking area with a very innovative décor that is very suggestive of a bar straight out of New York’s finer districts. This section also has its own bar and customers are free to also enjoy their dinner while seated there.
The upper section, which is the dining area, includes two additional bars, and spacious tables for eating.
The ambiance is what makes this place great. After dinner, you can move to the lower section to enjoy some drinks and good music with friends.
The service may be slow, so be sure to keep reminding your waiter about your order. Although the portions are a bit small, the food is nothing less than excellent! Beginning with the sushi, I must emphasize that Mybar has the only Japanese sushi chef in Lebanon, and the sushi is fresh, delicious, and fantastically prepared. You could start out with the marinated salmon salad and some edamame, and follow it up with a wide selection of mouthwatering sushis and makis. Be sure to try the Mybar specialties that you won’t find any place else.
In case you’re not a sushi lover, I insist that you try the other extraordinary items on the menu. As a cold appetizer, you simply must try the tartar wagyu, which will be a festival for your taste buds. It is perfectly prepared with regards to ingredients, presentation, and freshness. You can follow that with the Black Angus tenderloin filet with Tepenyaki vegetables or Wagyu beef grade 6 tenderloin filet with Tepenyaki, which are both succulent and bursting with flavor. A great red wine to have with your beef is the Lussar Saint Emilion, Château des Lands; enjoy its aroma.
Mybar is a great place for business meetings, friendly dinners, or even a date – simply try it out and enjoy it. It is a bit pricey though; watch out for what you’re ordering so that you do not exceed your budget. Dress code is definitely not comfortable and casual; so dress up, look nice, chic, and stylish for when you want to go to Mybar.
Price per person, including dinner and drinks, is around 150 USD.
