Le Refuge: Cozy, Comfortable Dining in Mzaar

For residents and tourists alike, spending winter weekends in the snow-covered Kfardebian and Faqra is definitely a treat. After a day of skiing or chilling with friends around the chimney, you have a wide variety of great restaurants, bars, and clubs to go to. One that I personally like and have enjoyed for as long as I can remember is Le Refuge; one of the many restaurants of the infamous 5 star Intercontinental Mzaar Hotel.

Its indoor area seats 120 people in a cozy and warm log cabin setting with a panoramic view of the Mzaar snow-covered ski slopes. Its terrace, seating 600 people, opens all year round granted that the weather conditions are acceptable. Sitting indoors during a cold snowy evening couldn’t be more charming and sitting outdoors to enjoy the warmth of the sun and the view of nature couldn’t be more relaxing.

Le Refuge serves international cuisine prepared by chef Bassam Soud and the menu offers a wide selection of entrées, specialties, cold and hot platters, and desserts that change according to season. You must try the complimentary selection of homemade, freshly baked bread which absolutely scrumptious.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and we experienced no delay or error in our order.
Beginning with an entrée, I suggest you try the Winter Mountain Salad with Smoked Duck Breast, mixed green lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and walnuts. It is very fresh and delicious. Continuing with La Tradition Montagnarde, you can order the Sauteed potato with bacon and reblochon cheese. This platter is quite heavy but very tasty and ideal for cold climates. You can also order the Traditional Beef Bourguignon served in a clay pot; those of you who love or miss the taste of their mom’s cooking will definitely enjoy the taste of home in this platter. For the main platter, you can try the Grilled half-smoked salmon served with sautéed potato and braised eggs. The sautéed potatoes are delicious. I recommend that you leave a lot of room for the dessert which is the best part of the meal. The Tarte Tatin (apple tart served with vanilla ice cream) is absolutely mouthwatering and the Warm Chocolate Fondant with vanilla cream melts in your mouth and pleases your taste buds with every bite.

Buffet lovers will be happy to know that Le Refuge hosts its international buffet lunch every Sunday afternoon at 45 USD per person. During the winter season, it is served indoors; whereas you can enjoy it on the terrace under the sun during warmer seasons, which is something I personally cannot wait to do.

Le Refuge is a great venue for family or a group of friends, where you can enjoy the ambiance of Kfardebian in a very casual, comfortable, and cozy setting. Dress comfortably and casually as long as you are dressed adequately for the weather conditions, depending on the season. The price per person, including dinner and drinks, is around 50 USD.

The Intercontinental Mzaar Hotel is a sure stop for anyone Kfardebian or Faqra, where you can enjoy an array of restaurants including its famous lobby where people are always gathered at any time of the day. Look out for more Dine Out reviews on the restaurants of the Intercontinental Mzaar Hotel.
