Gambero: Seafood at a New Dimension

Lebanon boasts a wide range of restaurants that allow you to choose from a variety of different cuisines according to heart’s desire. Gambero has recently joined the list of Lebanon’s delicious restaurant, serving seafood fusion cuisine with its own unique style, taste, and menu. The venue opened a couple of months ago in Ashrafieh, on that charming little road leading to the Albergo hotel.

The restaurant is headed by Cordon Bleu chef Sleiman Ahmad who brought his expertise back to Lebanon as he combines flavors and concepts from Spain, Africa, Italy, and France to create Gambero’s original fusion menu.

As soon as you enter, you are enveloped in a modern, slick, clean, fresh, white setting. It is very minimal and the only touch of color to the place is the beautiful aquarium and the splash of colorful lighting. The venue seats 45 people on comfortable padded chairs – keyword being comfortable. The ambiance puts you at ease; there’s nothing uptight or pretentious about this place. It’s very relaxed and inviting.

The menu itself is very nice – I liked the presentation and the variety of items on it.
For the starters, we had the Seared Scallop in white wine sauce. It’s deliciously rich and creamy and the presentation is mouthwatering. I highly recommend you try it, although I suggest you add a hint of lemon. For an African twist, try the Kan Kan Kan; jumbo prawns in a mix of peanuts and chili sauce – it certainly boasts an interesting flavor. You can also try the Crab Gratin which is off the menu; it’s definitely different than other crab platters I’ve tried in the past since it is mixed with béchamel sauce. For desserts, we had the Sticky Toffee Pudding which I loved the most and highly recommend. The portions were excellent.

Although the service was a bit slow, the staff was exceptionally friendly and they paid a lot of attention to detail and to their customer’s needs.

This is a very cool place to try out for a casual dinner out with some friends. If you are a student in the area or if you work close by, it’s a convenient meeting point for your lunch break where you can discover some delicious new flavors with your friends.
