Chez Jean-Claude: Parisian Dining at its Finest

Dining in Paris has always ranked high on my list of favorites; be it the food, the restaurant itself, or the service, it’s simply an exquisite experience. A couple of months ago a colleague of mine mentioned that a new French restaurant opened its doors in the Ashrafieh area and he insisted that I try it out. I couldn’t have been more pleased. Chez Jean-Claude is a Parisian style restaurant in every aspect. Its cozy setting allows for only a few tables indoors and a couple of tables outdoors. Its wood-covered walls create a sense of hominess and refinement all at once. Do not be fooled, because there is no artsy-fartsy sophistication here; it’s the simplicity of the place that makes you fall in love with it. It is a two hour escape from the world around you where you can indulge your senses in an unforgettable gastronomical dining experience that you’ll be recommending to all your friends.

The waiter will narrate the menu items for you – no, there is no menu. He will also recommend some dishes for you, including the specialty of the day. You may choose your wine from a wine list featuring a wide selection of delicious wines. We started with some delicious lobster as an entrée and a light, fresh salad; the foie gras was very rich, fresh, and tasty. This was followed by a delicious Angus beef filet in a mouthwatering sauce for the main course – this is a must have! The veal was also perfectly prepared; succulent and tender. For desserts, I recommend the lemon sorbet which is the best I’ve had in Lebanon; with bits and pieces of lemon leaving you absolutely refreshed. The Crème Brûlée was also one of the best I’ve had; rich, creamy, and with just the right amount of sweetness – delicious!

The staff are very friendly and well-trained. The service was accurate and punctual. I recommend this place for a first date, an initimate dinner with your companion, or a dining experience with some gourmet friends. Regardless of when or with who you choose to go, I’m sure you will be very pleased.
