Famous eBay Green Team have come up with a way to “inspire the world to buy, sell and think green every day.”
The online auction house is continuing to make green moves, this time by announcing a new initiative that will see it sending out thousands of reusable, recyclable shipping boxes to sellers. eBay will start sending out the boxes next month, with an initial test run of 100,000. The “eBay boxes,” as they’re known, are designed to be reused so as to reduce the amount of waste that comes with shipping products all over the world. They’re also made from completely recycled materials, feature water-based inks, and are designed so as to reduce the need for tape.
Every spring, eBay hosts an innovation expo that invites eBay employees, from every department and level of the organization, to develop prototypes for new products and breakthrough innovations that benefit our buyers and sellers.
This year’s grand prize winner was an idea called “simple green shipping.” Basically, it’s a durable box that’s been designed to be used over and over and over again. That might sound like a pretty simple concept, but we think the idea is actually pretty powerful – especially in a marketplace like eBay where many of our buyers are also sellers and sellers are also buyers.
