Sometimes simply known as ES is a Lebanese fashion designer who has long been a leading name in haute couture throughout the Middle East. Saab was born in Beirut, in 1981 he moved to Paris to study Fashion but he was impatient and moved back to Lebanon in 1982 at the age of 18. He started his career by opening an atelier in Beirut. His style which is a mixture of Oriental and Western culture attracted many of the princesses in the surroundings.
In 1997 Saab was the first non-Italian designer to become a member of the Italian Camera Nazionale della Moda and in that same year he showed his first collection during the Roma “Alta Moda” Week in Rome. In 1998, he started ready-to-wear in Milan, and in the same year, he held a fashion show in Monaco which was attended byPrincess Stéphanie of Monaco. In 2002, he became an overnight success after he became the first Lebanese designer to dress Oscar winner Halle Berry who wore a burgundy gown by Saab to the Academy Awards where she won the title of Best Actress. Berry later wore another of Saab’s dresses to the Oscars in 2003, this time it was a gold dress.
In May 2003, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture invited him to become a member, and he showed his first Haute Couture collection in Paris on July 2003. His first ready-to-wear collection in Paris was the Spring-Summer 2006 collection, and Paris is now his permanent ready-to-wear runway.
One of the particular aspects in the designer’s fashion shows, is the presence of no less than ten wedding dresses in his collections: Elie Saab’s favorite creations.
Some of the celebrities who wore Saab’s creations are Salam Hayek, Monica Cruz, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Beyonce Knowles, Liz Hurley, Eva Longoria…
Saab has now workshops located in Beirut, Milano and Paris and boutiques in Beirut and Paris but His creations can be found all over the world.
