Layane was living in France for 20 years and organic and healthy food was her natural lifestyle. Coming back to Lebanon, she realized she couldn’t find the products she was used to and started thinking about opening an organic supermarket.
As for me (Sabine), the road towards organic way of living had to pass by several years of learning (yoga, detox, and eco-consciousness). I wasn’t aware of all the benefits of eating organic and it came to me as a revelation. I was working on a health store project and this is how I met Layane who was searching for a partner for her own project! We both mixed our ideas and A NEW EARTH was born….
Is there a demand for such things in Lebanon?
Not only the demand is growing everyday with the awareness, but we can honestly -and proudly- say that people are thanking us everyday for opening that store. This is our biggest reward…
How do you encourage people to organic products…?
Organic products are not new to the world; it actually started its retail spread since the early 1990s and more and more people are adopting this healthy and tasty lifestyle. It is not by mistake that the category registered such a growth; Organic food is known to contain 50% more nutrients, minerals and vitamins than produce that has been intensively farmed. Today, more than ever, people are becoming more conscious about the advantages of Organic products, increasing demand at a rate of around 20% in developed and developing nations.
The interesting part about organic products is not only their health benefits, but also the discovery of new tastes and textures: forgotten seeds or legumes like the quinoa that was used by the inca in Peru for it’s high level in protein, the super-fruits like the Himalayan Goji berry of Tibetan monks (amazingly anti-oxidant), or even natural oil for the Amazon, (Andiroba oil) used for centuries by the Indian of the Amazons for its several virtues (insect repellent / for psoriasis / dermatitis / arthritis…) So many interesting stories about products and produces naturally good in taste and health benefits!
Where do you get your products from?
A NEW EARTH products are imported from the USA, Europe, and Australia, in addition to locally grown products, all certified by the most respected and reliable sources worldwide such as USDA, AB, Nature and Progrès, and others. We are working closely with Lebanese producers to help them develop their range of products.
The importance of organic products today?
Today, buying organic is not only an eating habit, by supporting the organic movement you are supporting the change to more sustainable ways of living. Many people are aware that food grown according to organic principles is free from exposure to harmful herbicides and pesticides, but that is only one small aspect of organic agriculture. A larger part of organic agriculture involves the health of the soil and the ecosystem in which crops and livestock are raised. Organic farmers recognize that healthy, vibrant, and live soils and ecosystems significantly benefit crops.
