Under the Patronage of H.E Saad Al Hariri, Lebanese Prime Minister, the Hamra Streets Festivals- Maraya 2010 kicked off transforming the historical street into a cultural, musical and artistic hub. The main Hamra street was closed for pedestrians to enjoy the celebrations and activities, with Makdessi and Jeanne d’Arc Streets Shops and restaurants owners took part in the festivals participating in the event but streets not closed.
A carnival parade took place after the cutting the ribbon at the Piazza Area, Fransabank Building in Hamra, carrying joy, happinnes and entertaining the crowds that gathered around and enjoyed a fabulous fireworks show. Families, tourists, students and many more lived a special night at Hamra with all the events taking place from different fields of arts including variety music such as rock, blues, jazz, fusion and more in a unique display of talent and creativity.
The amazing carnival included Carnival Float (Char de Carnaval) from MISS Liban, MEA and Students, Dancing Groups, Zaffee loubnaniyya, Harley Davidson Owners HOG, The ISF Orchestra, University Clubs Parade, Firemen, Fuel Tankers with donkeys, Vegetable Chariots, Street Artists (Fire eater, stilt walker, etc…) in what was described by one of the crowds as “fabulous, and amazingly creative”.
The three day festival will include a number of activities that is expected to attract more than 200,000 people from around Lebanon. Promotional offers from shops and restaurants, bars and coffee shops, around 50 concerts in three different locations, arts and crafts Stand, NGO and awareness stands, Photography and Paintings Exhibitions. Also short films screening will take place in zawareebs of Hamra, Theater and Plays and Cirque du Liban area with 1,000 chairs on Saturday. Thats not all, a number of celebrities will participate in the activities including superstar Ragheb Alameh and Lebanese Rally Champion Jean-Pierre Nasrallah.
