Name: Ronin / Phil at Electric Sundown
Details: Phil:
Born with a weird haircut, a dream to be a Lego engineer, he turned out to be a real nerd at school. At the age of 14, something was scratching his right side of his brain though; music passion was there indeed!
Two years later, Phil spins at local pubs & clubs satisfying his thirst for music. He later on joined the leading radio station & promoter in the region MIX FM Lebanon and launched “Friday Night Mix” in 2010; his radio show airs every Friday night with a range of groovy house music selected from the finest nu school labels. His sets were appreciated and supported by the nation’s finest promoters and DJs whether he played at the biggest clubs in Lebanon, fancy rooftops in Syria, at crowded beach resorts in Jordan or underground bars in Paris. Inspired by a mixture of music, vocals, sights, DJs, friends, sun, urban living & love, Phil’s raw & emotive sound is distinctively recognized by its deep funky instrumentation, old school taste, piano hooks, chopped vocals, all keeping it jackin’ & soulful!
Early 2011, Phil joined his fellow infamous DJs Ronin & Nesta on their Beirut In the Mix journey establishing solid residencies in Beirut city and spreading their love for house all over town. He played alongside rising talents & established names on the international circuit namely the likes of Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Martin Buttrich, Luciano, Max Cooper, Nhar, Gunnar Stiller, Lee Foss, Adam Port, Blond:ish, Djebali, Dyed Soundorom, Shonky, Dan Ghenacia, David Squillace, Steve Lawler, Hold Youth, Tolga Fidan, Gui Boratto to name a few.
Ronin from Ronin & Nesta:
The pair originally met through a mutual friend in Paris, who hooked the then teenagers up online. They soon bonded over a shared love for electronic music, began playing at the same parties in Beirut and later merged their radio shows to create Beirut In the Mix – a pulsating, back-to-back mix of underground sounds ranging from deep house to big room twisted tech. The show quickly escalated into a fully fledged party brand, residency and artist collective, while the radio show – now top ranked on iTunes too http://bit.ly/xEtWef – was picked up by the region’s largest radio station Mix FM, for a prime-time slot, airing at 8pm every Saturday.
After impressing with their show-stopping, groovy-charged sets, Ronin and Nesta were invited last December to the notorious Creamfields Festival in Abu Dhabi, rocking the house arena and the Red Bull Silent Disco tent, in June for the FACT Barcelona off-Sonar Pool party series, and this September to Creamfields Beirut, hosting their own stage alongside an array of carefully selected acts.
Closer to home however, Ronin and Nesta have supported the great and very, very good of the international DJ scene. And even an impromptu storm couldn’t stop them stealing the limelight at the Digweed and Timo Maas headlined Bedrock space night a few years back. Showing they’re equally adept at DIY as DJing, the pair grabbed a handful of big bags, covered the decks and mixer and carried on playing in a huge summer squall to the delight of the 10,000 strong crowd.
