Join us to escape the heat of the city for a rejuvenating hike in the mountains…. We will commence our walk from Snoubra, passing by Shouane, Ibri and Kourkraya and continue staright to reach Wadi Janneh. Many water milles exist along the Adonis River.
The Valley of the Ibrahim River – otherwise known as the Adonis River – is famed for both its historical and religious significance. This is a wild and beautiful area – in pagan times a pilgrimage road ran along its north side to Afqa, scene of the tragic love story of Venus (Astarte) and Adonis.
According to the local legend, an ancient god became jealous of Adonis’ beauty that he transformed him self into a wild boar and fatally gored the handsome young man. As Adonis lay dying in the arms of Aphrodite, drops of blood spilled out onto an anemone flower and stained it crimson red. Each year when run off from the Lebanese mountains turns the river red, it is said to be the blood of Adonis.
Along the way, we will take a break for a picnic lunch while admiring a panoramic view of the area.
