After loosing to Russia 4-1 in the opening game, everyone was convinced that Czech Republic was on the verge of elimination and Russians were favorites to lead the group. But Petr Jiracek had a heavy weight surprise for the co-hosts Poland in the final Group A game in Wroclaw, netting the one goal in their encounter encounter to defeat the Polish team and crowds 1-0 win and last-eight berth and make it through to the second round.

The Greeks booked the second ticket in another shocking surprise after defeating the Russian bear. Giorgios Karagounis hard working performance and strike saw a 1-0 win over favorites Russia sending their opponents home from the first round in Euro 2012.

1. Czech Republic  6 points (Qualified)
2. Greece                  4 points (Qualified)
3. Russia                  4 points
4. Poland                  2 points
