Whenever I’m in the mood for some good, simple French food, I always head over to L’avenue du Parc, located in the Park Avenue neighborhood in the Downtown district. The Venue opened its doors last year, and from my first visit, my friends and I became repeat customers.
The venue itself is very modern, elegant, and simple; with special personal touches in the elements of décor that show attention to detail and individuality. Comfortable seats and neatly set tables invite you to enjoy a relaxed evening while trying the restaurant’s dishes. The outdoor terrace is an ideal location for summer afternoons and evenings, where you can take pleasure in the fresh breeze and warmth while looking around at the striking Downtown architecture.
The food itself is what keeps people coming back. For starters, we had the Homemade Foie Gras that is served with fig chutney. I order it every time because it’s rich, fresh, and appetizing. Another item we ordered is the Atilla Tartar; a steak tartar with grilled red pepper. The red pepper’s flavor makes all the difference in the world, making the tartar exceptional. Following that, we had the Spinach Ravioli; a delicious mix of four cheeses and porcini mushrooms. It’s so rich and creamy but light on the stomach at the same time. For the main dish, we had the Black Angus Filet, medium rare, with a side order of mushrooms, vegetables, and potatoes – delicious! With an order like the above, there’s no way you can go wrong. The portions were also very adequate, and the food was very neatly prepared with fresh ingredients.
The best part of the evening was the desserts. We ordered the Frozen Pistachio Macaroon with vanilla and strawberry ice cream. It’s one of those desserts that just hit the spot! The richness of the macaroon with the creamy freshness of the ice cream is a perfect combo – fruity, creamy, and light. The Caramel Parfait with banana brûlée is not as light but is nevertheless mouthwatering. I suggest you order both, whether you’re there for lunch, dinner, or just for coffee.
The restaurant has a nice wine list incase you’d like to pop open a bottle along with your meal.
The waiters are very friendly and very efficient while taking your order and serving you. We had a delay and a mistake in our order once, during which the waiter apologized, replaced our order, and gave us complimentary desserts.
I’d say this venue is a good setting for all sorts of occasions; whether it’s dinner with the family, a business lunch, a first date, or a dinner with friends. It’s very relaxed and mellow.
