| :: DRINK OF THE WEEK "The Bee’s Teas":: |
Beefeater 24 gin inspired me to concoct this simple cocktail that plays with the tea and citrus notes of the liquor.
I think it accentuates the spirit’s flavor and is a good match for its smooth and rich nuanced character.
Using frozen fruit and berries as ice cubes is a new thing I’ve been doing lately.
Not only is it pretty, but it cuts down on the water that will be added to your drink if you’re not a fast drinker. Also it slowly imparts a bit of the fruit flavor for a subtle twist.
Top it off with a splash or two of club soda if you want to add a little bit of effervescence to your day.
1.5 oz Beefeater 24 Gin (actually a wee bit more than this)
1 oz. warm water
1 oz. honey
Juice from 1 lemon
1 Earl Grey tea bag
Frozen cranberries
Steep the tea bag in the gin for about 10-15 minutes (I overpoured a little bit, since some liquid will get lost in the process). The resulting liquid should be the color of a dark cup of tea. Mix the honey into the warm water so it dissolves. Pour the gin-tea, honey-water and lemon juice over ice in a cocktail shaker and shake very gently. Pour into a rocks glass and add frozen cranberries. (Optional: top off with splash of club soda) |

| Music: Glenford "Lee" Prospere, |
|
Posted by webmaster on Tuesday, June 09 @ 17:24:51 CDT (69 reads)
Better known as MasSicker or "King Mas", is a prolific young singer/songwriter/composer/selector whose star has only begun to shine. As long as anyone can remember, this son of a calypsonian as been captivating audiences with his smooth vocals and over the years this artist has grown into a total musical package.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 21st, 1987, MasSicker, affectionately called "Lee" by close friends and family, was born into a very musical environment and a very musical Caribbean family. His father, Glenford T. Prospere AKA "Supreme", a legendary calypsonian on his island of Montserrat and calypso monarch, is a guitarist, pianist, songwriter and vocalist who he would watch and listen to very keenly along with the rest of the band at his church who would play gospel music in mainly reggae and calypso styles. His mother, Pauline Prospere of Clarendon, Jamaica, is not a musician but nurtured his talent by surrounding him with music from birth and encouraging him to perform at church events. It was this initial exposure and the encores that were often demanded that added fuel to the inborn musical fire within him.

The word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the body that correspond to nerve ganglia branching out from the spinal column, as well as states of consciousness, developmental stages of life, archetypal elements, body functions, colors, sounds, and much, much more.
Together they form a profound formula for wholeness and a template for transformation.

| News: 'Cell Phone Elbow' -- A New Ill for the Wired Age |
|
Posted by webmaster on Monday, June 08 @ 15:40:46 CDT (97 reads)
irst came Nintendo thumb. Then, Guitar Hero wrist. Now, for the latest affliction of the wired age, it's cell phone elbow. Medically known as cubital tunnel syndrome, cell phone elbow is numbness, tingling and pain in the forearm and hand caused by compression of the ulnar nerve, which passes along the bony bump on the inside of the elbow. One of the causes of pressure on the ulnar nerve? Too much gabbing, often brought on by those cell phone plans with unlimited minutes, experts say. Prolonged flexing of the elbow, such as when you hold a cell phone to your ear while closing sales, talking to your mother or keeping tabs on your teens while you're at work, puts tension on the ulnar nerve. In susceptible people, holding the bent-elbow position for extended periods can lead to decreased blood flow, inflammation and compression of the nerve.

Chic and Classic.
- The Doheny, Los Angeles, CA
A members-only joint for top power brokers, art stars and the occasional hip celebrity, The Doheny offers a break from the standard Hollywood scene. Lauded for its world-class *****tails, smoker’s greenhouse and irreverent house rules (“no brown-nosing,” “no starlets” and “no cellphones”), this is widely considered to be the hippest joint in town.
- The Lobby Bar at the Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles, CA
Built in 1927, this legendary hotel has hosted almost every celebrity ever made. The Spanish-style estate with cathedral ceilings and threadbare couches seems frozen in time, which is why it’s so charming. Visit the Chateau for a heavy dose of old-Hollywood glamour or spot today’s biggest stars kickin‘ it on the down low.
- The Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel, New York, NY
Artist Julian Schnabel and owner Ian Schrager’s hotel bar is masculine, palatial, dark and trés chic. If you are on the doorman’s list outside, you gain entry into the cavernous lounge, equipped with a pool table, a shark chandelier and waitresses poured into black Narcisso Rodriguez sheaths. This is a go-to hot spot for the young, rich and decadent.
